Policy

Animal Welfare Come First

***ADOPTION POLICY - Please read***

At The Merry Mischief Rattery, we continue to care about our animals long after they leave us. As such, it’s our strict policy to only adopt individuals who are seeking rats as pets. They are not meant to be feeders. To make sure our rats get the forever home they deserve, we carefully interview all potential owners.

The adoption fee is $40 per ratto. If you see a baby that you would like held for you for adoption, a deposit of half the adoption fee must be paid and this is nonrefundable. Please contact us for availability. The other half of the fee will be due the week before the babies are ready to go to their new homes. No refund will be given on any portion of the adoption fee.

We guarantee our babies for 72 hours from pickup so that you may have time to get to know them and for them to settle into their new home. If for some reason issues arise, please do not hesitate to contact us. We will work with you for a resolution. If a ratto passes suddenly or shows aggression in that time frame, we will replace it with a comparable ratto. If for some reason past time 72 hours you decide pet rats are not for you, please, please contact us and we will find them a new home. Please do not release them in the wild. They are too domesticated to survive out in the environment.

Adopted babies can be delivered within a 200-mile radius of our location, however, there will be a delivery fee of up to $100 added depending on distance or the babies can be picked up locally.

Babies must be adopted out in same-sex groups of two or more unless proof is provided that you already have pet rats at home. The reason is that rats are social animals and require the companionship of their own kind to thrive. They will be ready to go to their new home no earlier than 8 weeks old.

Proof of an appropriate and adequate habitat must be shown prior to any adoption. If you’re not sure what is appropriate, we are more than happy to provide education and suggestions.
